MARTHA NAGEL JOINS ARTWORKS

Martha Johnson Nagel has joined the Art Works family. She brings expertise in the areas of knitting, felting, and embellishment.

Martha was taught to knit doll clothes by her mother when she was a child. She continued to knit through her college years. About ten years ago, she started experimenting with various types and textures of yarn. She became interested in felting and began creating purses, scarves, and coasters, sometimes embellished with beads. Martha hopes to add pillow cases, other clothing, and decorative items to her repertoire.

Raised on the eastside of Iron Mountain, Martha graduated from Iron Mountain High School. She achieved a degree in education from North Park College in Chicago. Working with both children and adults, she had a career in early childhood education serving as both teacher and administrator in the Head Start program.

Martha has lived in Illinois, Florida, and South Carolina returning to this area in 2007. She and her husband, Seelye “Corky” Nagel live in a new home built on property purchased by her grandfather in 1913 on the Spread Eagle chain. The Nagel’s have three grown children and four grandchildren.

Martha’s creations can be seen at Art Works, 111 North Stephenson Avenue, every day except Tuesday.
