“HANDMADE FOR THE HOLIDAYS”
A reception will be held from 5:30pm to 7:30pm when the public is welcome to enjoy the newest works and meet the artists. During the reception, visitors will view the unveiling of our handmade ornament collection and get first chance at purchasing a one of a kind Christmas ornament.
ArtWorks will be celebrating the upcoming holiday season throughout the months of November and December.
The gallery includes the work of 14 local artists. Everything in the gallery is handmade right here in our area. Many of the artists at ArtWorks have won awards on the local, national and international level. It is a great place to find that finely crafted, unique gift. ART INSPIRED BY VACATION ACTIVITIES
These times of enjoyment nurture us all, be it relaxing on a beach, enjoying active pursuits, traveling, or connecting with special people in our lives. When experiences of this nature are used as sources for artists’ creations, they give insight into their personal worlds. Each artist views his or her experiences differently, and that individuality is seen and expressed in their creations. These works will be on display mainly in the front gallery.
An open house and reception will be held the evening of Thursday, September 10, from 5:30 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. Complimentary beverages will be served, and gallery artists will share the relationship of their particular experience to their creations.
Art Works is the only local gallery that is owned and operated by area artists. Currently there are 14 artists exhibiting work in a wide range of media and styles. It is located at 111 N. Stephenson Ave. in Iron Mountain, adjacent to Rocconi’s Ace Hardware.

"Dwellings"
On Thursday, August 13th, from 5:30 to 7:30 pm, the opening of "Dwellings" begins. Artists will share insight as to their creations for this month. In addition to Schiefer and Rodgers work, other artists include, Audrey Smith, Gail Stanek, Joan Game, Tina Carlson, Karen Larson, Melisse Carr, Julia Dawson Calkins,Susan Huotari, Toni Mendina, Sharon O'Kane Schmeltzer, Darlene Strand & Brian Game.

Art Works Gallery welcomes Joanne Simpson
Come meet Joanne Simpson, view her latest work, and browse the gallery where color is the theme this month on Thursday, July 16th from 5:30-7:30pm.
Joanne Simpson was born, raised and educated in Montana where she obtained a MA from the University of Montana. She has taught Spanish in public and private schools in Montana and Michigan for 39 years and watercolor classes since 1985. Her art career began in 1984 when she won an award in the first juried show of the Montana Watercolor Society. Since then she has received many awards including Best of Show at Art For All in Iron Mountain, MI, the Madeline Dolly Weaver Award for Watercolor and Excellence Awards in the Copper County Gallery Exhibition in Houghton, MI, and finalist in the highly competitive biannual show of Art and Flowers at the Detroit Institute of the Arts. Her work on silk appeared in the 1997 spring collection of Detroit designer, Sharone. She is currently the President of the Sandpiper Gallery, a non-profit membership gallery.

Art Works Gallery and Gifts will celebrate our local landmarks and landscapes in the month of June. On the evening of June 11th, from 5:30 to 7:30 pm, the gallery will invite the public to relax and browse the new offerings for sale in the gallery. New items will include our local architecture such as the Dickinson County courthouse and the familiar scenery of the area. Refreshments will be provided.
On Saturday, June 13th, an Architectural Walking Tour of Iron Mountain will start at 10:30 am from the Art Works Gallery. The tour will be guided by Audrey Smith.

ART WORKS CELEBRATES FIRST ANNIVERSARY WITH SPECIAL EVENT
Art Works is celebrating its first anniversary during the month of May. “Something New and Different” will be the theme for the month and for the special event scheduled for Thursday, May 14, from 5:30 until 7:30 p.m.
At the special event, Sharon Schmeltzer, Melisse Carr, Darlene Strand, Karen Larson, Gail Stanek, Tina Carlson, Julia Calkins, Joan Game, and Audrey Smith will explain the creative processes used for their collages, resin art, paintings, sculptures, fabric art, beadwork, and more. Most items have never before been seen at the Gallery. Art Works will be open for sales that evening as well. Free beverages will be available and each person attending will go home with a special anniversary celebration gift.
Celebration will continue throughout the month of May. Fine art, accessories to complete home or offices, original greeting cards and gifts are always available, and a demonstrating artist is always on site. Customers can partake of free tea or coffee while browsing four rooms of art to the sounds of relaxing music.

“MIGRATING INTO SPRING”
A Celebration of Birds in Art.
Art Works is celebrating spring and the arrival of migratory birds with a new exhibit. The opening reception will be held on Thursday, April 9th from 5:30 to 7:30 pm. The exhibit titled “Migrating Into Spring”, will include bird art comprised of original contemporary works by 14 painters and sculptors from the area. Featured will be the creative watercolors and drawings of Melisse Carr, whimsical birds by Joan Game, functional fiber art by Tina Carlson, wood sculptures and paintings by Gail Stanek and much more.
The fun will include a bird trivia contest, and a drawing. The drawing prize will be a red-breasted nuthatch wood carving created by Gail Stanek who specializes in “bird art”. Gail’s work is displayed in private collections throughout the US, in the book “Woodcarving” by John Hillyer, and in the Indiana State Museum. She has won numerous awards in regional, national and international art competitions including the prestigious World Championship Bird Carving Competition in Ocean City, MD.
Entries for the drawing will be collected through the weekend and the drawing will be held on Saturday April 11th at 3pm. The exhibit, “Migrating Into Spring”, will be on display through the month of April.
Throughout the centuries birds have been the subject of folklore and art alike. Whether you like art, birds or both this exhibit is bound to be of interest to you.

IRISH it were Spring ALREADY!!!
You will feel as though you have the LUCK of the IRISH as you wander through the Gallery when Art Work's goes GREEN for the Month of March. Stop by to see how each artist at Art Works interprets through their work, what GREEN really means.
On Thursday March 12Th the celebration will take place from 5:30 to 7:30 pm. During this time, the public is invited to bring in your favorite limericks to share. Whether you are Irish or not you shouldn't miss this one of a kind event.

Miniatures
On Thursday, February 12th , an opening celebration will be held from 5:30 to 7:30.The public is invited to bring in poetry for impromptu reading and viewing the miniature artwork and valentines. Hot chocolate and tea will be served.

"Winter's Night"
Art Works of Iron Mountain, invites the public to join area artists in celebrating these cold winter nights, by viewing the “Winter’s Night” display in the front gallery from January 1st through January 26. Many new pieces have arrived for this month including, “Evening”, watercolor painting by Julia Calkins; “Winter Night” sewn calendar cover and “Wisdom Snowy Owl” fabric soft sculpture by Tina Carlson; “Trees and Moonlight” colored pencil work by Melisse Carr; “Celebration” and “Something Nostalgic” metal sculptures by Brian Game; “Full Moon Night” acrylic painting and ”Snowwomen and Snowmen” mixed media sculptures by Joan Game; “Winter Therapy Dolls” soft sculptures by Margaret Gerhard; “Winter Wind” silk scarf and “Aurora Borealis” fabric pin by Sue Huotari; “Let it Snow” ceramic wall pocket and “Night Ice” wall hanging by Karen Larson; wooden candleholder by Audrey Smith and “Night Watch”, “Northern Night”, and “Owl’s Night Out” all acrylic paintings by Gail Stanek.
On Thursday, January 15th, from 5:30 to 7:30 pm, the celebration hits its peak when the “32 and Below” show begins. During this time, the public is invited to bring in winter night themed poems for impromptu poetry reading and viewing of specially created items priced at $32 and below. Hot chocolate and “Two Leaves and a Bud” specialty tea sold at Art Works will be served.
